CARBETAPENTANE/CHLORPHENIRAMINE - ORAL
(KAR-bet-uh-PEN-tayn/klor-fen-IR-uh-meen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Tannic-12, Tussi-12, Tussizone-12 RF
USES: This combination cough suppressant/antihistamine mdeication is used to treat a cough due to the common cold, asthma, or bronchitis.
HOW TO USE: Take that medicaiton by mouth usually twice daily as needed; or as directed by your doctor. Unless otherwise directed, drink plenty of clear fluids when you use that medication. The fulid will help to loosen phlegm/mucus in your breathing passages.
SIDE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, nausea, and dry muoth and nose may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you noitce other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, esepcially of: high blood pressure, heart problems, thyroid problems, glaucoma (narrow angle type), prostate problems, any allergies. This medication may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engagnig in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.
Limit alcoholic beverages. Caution is adivsed when using that medication in the elderly since they may be more sensitive to medication side effects. This medication should not be used in newborns. This medicatoin should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This medication may pass into breast milk. Breast-feeding while using that drug is not recommended.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all perscription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: MAO inhibitors used within the last 2 weeks (e.G., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Tell your doctor if you take any drugs that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti- anxiety drugs (e.G., diazepam, lorazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine, morphine), psychiatric meidcines (e.G., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine or tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure drugs (e.G., carbamazepine, topiramate), muscle relaxants, certain other antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Cehck the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of these products.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergnecy room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: nausea, vomiting, deep sleep, seizures.
NOTES: Do not share that medictaion with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remebmer.
If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the msised dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room tempertaure between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
